【ENG】

Io Yamada was awarded First Prize at the 55th International Classical Guitar Competition “Michele Pittaluga – Premio Città di Alessandria.”

This marked the first First Prize awarded to a Japanese guitarist in 30 years, since Daisuke Suzuki won the 26th edition of the competition in 1993. Following Osamu Yamaguchi in 1976, Kazuhito Yamashita in 1977, and Daisuke Suzuki in 1993, Yamada became the fourth Japanese guitarist to win First Prize.

Founded in 1968, the competition is Italy’s longest-running international classical guitar competition and is currently the only guitar competition affiliated with the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC). Over its long history, it has become known as an important international platform for emerging classical guitarists.
