In June 2026, I was awarded First Prize and the Alhambra Award (Best Performance of the Commissioned Work) at the XVII Alhambra International Guitar Competition, held in Valencia, Spain. With this achievement, I became the first Japanese guitarist to win First Prize in the history of the competition.
The Alhambra International Guitar Competition (Concurso Internacional de Guitarra Alhambra / CIGA) was established in 1990 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Manufacturas Alhambra, one of Spain’s leading guitar manufacturers, and has since become one of the prominent international competitions in the classical guitar world. Today, it is organized biennially in Valencia, Spain, by the Fundación Alhambra Guitarras (Alhambra Guitars Foundation).
The competition offers the highest first-prize award among international classical guitar competitions held in Spain. In addition, the winner receives a range of opportunities designed to support their professional career, including a CD recording, international promotion, and concert engagements.
Alongside First Prize, I also received the Alhambra Award, presented for the best performance of a contemporary Spanish work specially commissioned for the competition.
Following these awards, a number of upcoming projects are planned, including a CD recording and concert engagements. Further details will be announced on this website as they become available.
